Unproduced Conceptual Nemoidian Walking Chair Mock Up

Line: Episode I - Basic
Type: Models, Molds & Waxs

Description:

Many toys that are proposed for retail sale can reach a certain stage in the creation process then get cancelled from production. The range of stages varies greatly. At any stage from a vocal conversation mentioning possible toy ideas in a meeting, all the way through to final production examples such as the unproduced two packs from the Episode One toy line the toy idea can still get cancelled.

Some toys start off as a conceptual model to use as a presentation piece to give some idea as to what the toy would look like and what features it would include for young children to create various role play scenarios. What is not widely known is that anyone can submit an idea to Hasbro as a pitch to get an idea created. Which technically means that not all conceptual prototypes were created by a Hasbro employee, or a free lance designer. For example, a customizer can create a model and submit the idea to Hasbro. It is not known who (Hasbro or otherwise) created the following piece.

What remains in the picture below is a proposed conceptual model for a wind up Nemoidian walking chair, which is based on a scene from Star Wars Episode One The Phantom Menace. Using the wind up crank located on the side of the body the user could activate the spider like legs to create the chair's walking feature.

Unfortunately, pieces are missing from this model, including several of the critical leg parts, however; the motor is still operational. This mock up is similar in style to the conceptual walking Droid Fighter featured by collector Dan Flarida on the now defunct CollectStarWars website, which merged with Rebelscum.

It is unknown just how far along into the production process this toy idea was. It is also unknown if any other examples of this conceptual toy in any prototype stage still exists. Only time will tell.
